Strete Barton House is a 16th Century Manor House which is home to an AA 5 star rated luxury guest house/bed and breakfast set in extensive grounds in the picturesque village of Strete, near Dartmouth in the South Hams area of Devon. Panoramic sea views across Start Bay from Start Point light-house to the mouth of the river Dart. Ideally situated to explore the South Hams; only one mile from the award winning beaches of Slapton and Blackpool Sands, Slapton Ley Nature Reserve and lake. The South West Coast Path is a mere 30 metres away.

Contemporary interior: bedrooms fitted with luxurious French sleigh beds, Egyptian cotton sheets and feather down pillows, wall mounted flat screen TV with DVD/CD player, Wi-Fi access, extensive beverage tray, mineral water and luxury toiletries. Drawing room with sofas and armchairs and open fireplace. Breakfast is served in the dining room overlooking the garden; full English breakfast using local ingredients, an amuse bouche of seasonal fruit; fresh homemade fruit salad and local farm yogurts. On arrival guests are offered home-made cake and tea or coffee served in the drawing room, or on the terrace in our garden overlooking the sea.

Strete Barton House is ideally situated between the stunning cove at Blackpool Sands, and Torcross Village – with its beach and the Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, however it is still only 5 miles from the multi-cultural river town of Dartmouth. The sailing village of Salcombe is only 15 miles away, whilst Kingsbridge, the principal town in the South Hams, is only 12 miles to the west. We are fortunate to have two wonderful places to eat in the village: “The Laughing Monk Restaurant” awarded Taste of the West Gold Award 2009, and the “King’s Arms” voted one of the top ten places to eat seafood in the UK by Which Magazine 2008.

We have five rooms in the main house and a cottage suite with private entrance attached to the side of the house. Five of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms and one room has a private shower room.  All rooms have a contemporary feel with Graham & Brown wallpaper, Farrow & Ball paint, paintings or wall sculptures and silk cushions and bed-runners. We use the highest quality mattresses and our double beds are either king size or super-king size, so you can be assured of a good night’s sleep.

Accommodation

• The Cottage Suite has its own private entrance leading into a private hallway into the living room with a beamed inglenook fireplace and log burning stove. The living room is luxuriously appointed with a leather sofa, and easy chair, wall-mounted flat screen TV, DVD/CD player and cloak room. Stairs lead to the first floor bedroom with a king-size bed and sea views. A further en-suite WC and hand-basin. The downstairs bathroom is a full bathroom with a bath and shower, pedestal basin and toilet.
• King’s View - Superior bedroom with super-king size four poster bed and stunning sea views over the garden towards the sea. Window seat, two easy-chairs, writing desk, wall-mounted flat screen TV, DVD/CD player. En-suite bathroom with bath and shower.
• Mewstone - King size French sleigh bed and stunning sea views over the garden towards the sea. Easy-chair, writing desk, wall-mounted flat screen TV, DVD/CD player. En-suite bathroom with bath and shower.
• Nun’s Retreat - King size French sleigh bed and village views. Easy-chair, writing desk, wall-mounted flat screen TV, DVD/CD player. Large en-suite bathroom with two hand basins, bath and shower.
• Bay View - Twin beds and stunning sea views. Easy-chair, writing desk, wall-mounted flat screen TV, DVD/CD player. Private shower room (not en-suite but two metres from the bedroom and for the sole use of the occupants of the room; waffle gowns are provided).
• Bay View - Super-king size bed and stunning sea views. Easy-chair, writing desk, wall-mounted flat screen TV, DVD/CD player. Private shower room (not en-suite but two metres from the bedroom and for the sole use of the occupants of the room; waffle gowns are provided).
• Monk’s View - Twin French sleigh bed and village views. Easy-chair, writing desk, wall-mounted flat screen TV, DVD/CD player. En-suite shower room.
